Families are used to group similar items together. These are items that are basically the same product but might come in different varieties. These items generally have the same sell price. An example of this is a can of dog food. It doesn't matter if its Chicken or Beef, it still sells for the same price. You can define a family code and then assign the similar items to the same family code. When you add a sell price for one of the items in the family, the system will automatically attempt to add the same sell price to all other items in the same family.

Generally, its only sells that are copied across the family group. Costs are not generally copied because the items could come in different size packs. However, if the cost can be copied across the items, you can modify the family code to tell it to also copy the costs.
