Local Currency Statistics

For many sites that use Merchant Central, all locations will use a single currency. However, some sites might have locations that trade in different currencies. In this case, you have to be careful using Trading Statistics. If one location is in Australian Dollars (AUD) and another is in British Pounds (GBP), you cannot simply view sales for both locations and add the sales figures together. You need to have the sales in one currency.

Merchant Central uses the concept of local statistics. You start by choosing the primary currency for the system. In our example, we will make AUD the primary currency. For each location code that is using a different currency code, you create a new matching location code with its primary currency code set to AUD. On the original location, you set its Local Statistics Location to the new location code.

Example:

We start with these two locations.

Location Code

Currency

Local Statistics Location

SHOP1

AUD

SHOP2

GBP

And we end up with these locations:

Location Code

Currency

Local Statistics Location

SHOP1

AUD

SHOP2

GBP

SHOP2LOCAL

SHOP2LOCAL

AUD

There is an end of day job called Convert Local Statistics. This will take the statistics from SHOP2 and convert them to SHOP2LOCAL using the currency rates. (Note, that this means you are using more disk space because you are effectively collecting the statistics twice. The process simply copies the basic statistics temporary table from one location to another. The Statistics Updater service then processes these records to the final statistics tables.) The task CONVERTLOCALSTATSACCOUNTRATE will convert the stats using the Account Exchange Rate.

Now you adjust your location groups to cater for the new locations.

Example:

The ALL location used to include SHOP1 and SHOP2. If you view trading statistics for ALL you will be adding mixed currencies, which results in incorrect figures.

We keep the ALL location because we use that for other processing. However, we set up a new location called ALLLOCAL for use with statistics. ALLLOCAL will include SHOP1 and SHOP2LOCAL. We can now view trading statistics for ALLLOCAL. We will see the statistics for both locations using the primary currency (AUD). If we view statistics for SHOP2LOCAL, we will see the statistics in the primary currency (AUD). But we can just as easily view statistics for SHOP2 and we would see statistics in that location's local currency (GBP).
