Portals Configuration

When the user clicks on the View / Edit Portal link from the Configured Alerts screen, they are shown the list of configured portals:

For each portal defined in the system, you may select to edit, show or configure that portal using the buttons on the right hand side of that table row.

The third column in the table distinguishes between those portals which are available for a full-screen browser (Standard Portal) and those which are intended for display on a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) / Hand Held Terminal (HHT) device – (PDA Portal).

A portal can be removed using the delete button on that row -- and in this case any associated components will also be removed.

Note: the alerts to generate the information for the components are not affected.

Adding/Editing a Portal

If you click on the Add Portal link or select Edit in the table of defined portals you will be shown the edit portal screen:

When adding a portal you can specify whether or not it is a PDA portal; when editing one, this field is read-only. In both cases the ID is read-only (a new one will be allocated automatically if necessary) and the description field may be edited. An empty description is not accepted.

Configuring a Portal

A portal is built up of components which are assigned to a particular column on a particular row. If there are gaps in the list of columns, the component on the left of the gap is spread out to span the necessary extra columns.

To add a new component, enter the row and column numbers required in the relevant input boxes and select the alert you want to include from the first drop down list. This updates the second drop down list with the available exports from which to choose. You may then also add a header for the component in the final input field – this is optional.

The row / column pair must be unique. If you enter a row and column that already has a portal defined you will overwrite the existing component with the new value – no error is returned.

If you wish to delete a component rather than replacing it you can do so by clicking the delete link -  - on the relevant row.

Note: Only charts and HTML exports are supported in a portal.

You can click on the Show Portal link at the bottom of the page to see what the portal will look like – note that if the relevant alerts have not fired yet, the exports won’t exist and the portal will not display properly.
